What Do I Wear To My Portrait Session?

While each event is different, here are the most standard suggestions for what to wear for you or your child's portrait session:

*Please always check with your school or organization to ensure you arrive in the correct attire.

Formal Cap & Gown(College/University):

  • Caps, gowns, and tassels are typically provided on site. Feel free to bring your own stole/sashes/tassels if you have them.
  • Please wear a collared shirt (and tie) if you would like your collar to show under your gown. V-necks or tank tops under the gown work well if you do not want a shirt to show.
  • If you signed up for a Supreme Sitting, please come prepared in your business attire, as those poses are taken first.

“Business attire” typically includes dress shirts, blouses, sweaters, blazers, ties, slacks, dresses, or other neat, professional-looking clothing. We recommend avoiding overly casual clothing such as graphic tees, hoodies, or athletic wear.

  • Please ensure hair and make-up are done before arrival.
  • We ask that you arrive 10 minutes early to check in for your appointment.

High School Senior Portraits:

  • Caps, gowns, tassels, drapes, and tuxedos are typically provided on site.
  • For cap & gown photos, please wear a collared shirt (and tie) if you would like your collar to show under your gown. V-necks or tank tops under the gown work well if you do not want a shirt to show.
  • Additional clothing changes and regalia should be brought to your appointment to help personalize your photos. A favorite sports prop, a Letterman's jacket, or a musical instrument are some great examples.
  • Please ensure hair and make-up are done before arrival.
  • School ID photos are usually taken during this session as well. If applicable, please wear your school polo to the shoot.

K-12 Schools:

  • Students may wear anything they feel comfortable and confident in.
  • We do recommend choosing something neat and photo-ready, with hair styled and an overall clean, polished appearance for the best results.

Sports:

  • Athletes should arrive in their complete game uniform.
  • Players are also welcome to bring personal sports equipment such as balls, bats, gloves, etc.
  • If photos will be taken indoors and your sport requires cleats, please arrive wearing regular shoes and change into cleats just before your session to help protect gymnasium or auditorium floors.
